Biodegradable lubricants hydraulics

Servi delivers biodegradable lubricants to hydraulics

Mineral oils from hydraulic systems can be harmful to the environment. With biodegradable lubricant in the hydraulic system, you can minimize the negative effect to the marine environment if the lubricant were to leak.

Traditionally, mineral oils are used in hydraulic systems. Hydraulic mineral oils are harmful to the environment because they are derived from non-renewable petroleum sources and can cause damage to environmental ecosystems. When released into the environment, they can contaminate soil, water, and air. Mineral oils also have a high tendency to persist in the environment, causing long-term environmental pollution.

Biodegradable hydraulic lubricants, on the other hand, are designed to break down faster and more efficiently than traditional hydraulic oils.

There are several advantages when using biodegradable hydraulic lubricant:

  • The lubricant is formulated to break down in nature in a way that does not harm the environment as much as traditional mineral oils. These lubricants are made from natural ingredients, including vegetable oils and esters, rather than petroleum-based ingredients, from which mineral oils are made.
  • It has a longer shelf life than mineral oils.
  • The lubricant improves the performance and longevity of hydraulic systems.
  • It also provides health benefits for the workers who deal with them. These lubricants are not toxic, which means they are not dangerous.

We offer and sell two types of biodegradable lubricants:

castrol biobar - biologisk nedbrytbar hydraulikkoljeCastrol Biobar

Castrol Biobar has low friction and is classified as energy saving in comparison to other types of mineral oils. It is approved in OSPAR (Oslo-Paris agreement) and VGP (USA EPA).

Castrol Biobar:

  • are approved by our main suppliers, where they confirm that the oil is compatible with their products.
  • is compatible with all known types of gaskets. This means, among other things: NBR1, NBR2, FKM2, PTFE, Neoprene, Polyurethane, Nylon, PEEK, Silicone and HNBR1.
  • is approved in OSPAR (Oslo-Paris agreement) and VGP (USA EPA). In addition, it is registrerd in HOCNF and PLONOR lists. **
  • is classified as 'Readily Biodegradable in marine and freshwater environments, fully saturated, fully synthetic phosphate ester''
  • is ''Extremely resistant to hydrolysis''. That means it has a high level of resistance to the influence of water or moisture. It is a known problem for all phosphate esters.
  • can be mixed with Shell Tellus S* (or equivalent mineral oils) up to 2% without prejudice to the classification of the final product as environmental oil according to ISO 15380:2002 Annex 1.
  • can be mixed with up to 15% of mineral oils without any influence on the chemical and functional properties of the product. (Note 15% may affect the classification of final product as non-approved as environmental oil).
  • has low friction and is classified as energy saving in comparison to other types of mineral oils.

FACTS**:

OSPAR (Oslo-Paris Commission) is an international organization established to protect the marine environment of the north-eastern Atlantic. Member States cooperate on combating pollution, preserving marine ecosystems, and increasing the sustainable use of marine resources. OSPAR was established in 1992 and has 16 member countries.

The PLONOR list has been prepared by OSPAR and contains chemicals that pose little or no danger to the environment.

OSPAR has developed a gradation list, HOCNF (Harmonized Offshore Chemical Notification Format), which explains how the chemical substances affect the marine environment. Castrol Biobar, on this graduation list, has the colour green, which is classified as no risk to the environment.
