The gyratory compactor is used to compact cylindrical samples of asphalt.
The method can be used for:
Determination of the cavity in an asphalt mass after a certain number of revolutions.
Create a curve with density or cavity against number of revolutions.
Creating samples with a given height to get a sample with a specific density that can then be tested.
The gyratory compactor is used to simulate and reproduce the real compaction conditions during paving, thus determining the compaction properties of the asphalt.
